Astro Diner Controls
Last updated: May 2026
Astro Diner is built around simple browser controls: choose ingredients, build a matching plate, serve the order, and manage the run. This page explains the expected keyboard, mouse, touch, and mobile behavior so players can focus on the diner instead of hunting for buttons.
Keyboard controls
Keyboard play is useful on desktop and laptop screens. Ingredient shortcuts may be available for quick plate building, and common browser-game actions such as undo, recipe reference, and restart are designed to be reachable without moving your hands far from the keyboard. The visible buttons remain the source of truth: if a command is available, the matching on-screen control will show what it does.
Use keyboard input carefully during a rush. A shortcut is only helpful when you already know which ticket you are serving. If you press a key too early or while looking at the wrong customer, use undo or clear to correct the plate before serving.
Mouse controls
Mouse play is the clearest way to learn Astro Diner. Click an ingredient button to add it to the prep deck. Click Serve Order when the plate matches a waiting customer. Click undo to remove the last ingredient, or clear to empty the plate when the build has gone wrong. Click the recipe reference button if you need a quick reminder of order patterns.
The best mouse habit is deliberate targeting. Choose the customer first, then click ingredients. Avoid bouncing between customer cards and ingredient buttons without a plan. A clean click sequence beats frantic movement.
Touch controls
On touch screens, tap ingredients to add them to the plate. Tap Serve Order when it is available. Tap undo or clear if the plate needs correction. The game uses large touch targets for the main actions, but small screens still require attention because customer tickets, the prep deck, and ingredient controls share limited space.
If a tap does not seem to register, wait a moment before tapping repeatedly. Repeated taps can add extra ingredients and turn a correct plate into a wrong one. On mobile, a steady tap rhythm is usually safer than rapid tapping.
Mobile play notes
Astro Diner works best when your phone is held so you can see the customer lane and prep deck clearly. If the interface feels tight, try landscape orientation or a slightly larger device. Keep browser zoom at the normal setting when possible. Browser UI, accessibility zoom, and very small screens can reduce the space available for the game controls.
Mobile sessions are still fully playable, but they reward shorter decisions. Serve quick orders during crowded moments, clear mistakes early, and avoid long target switching while the customer lane is busy.
Pause and restart behavior
During a run, the interface includes controls for settings, restart, and returning to the menu. Restart begins the shift again, which is useful when you want to practice a cleaner opening. Returning to the menu leaves the active run and takes you back to world selection. Settings let you adjust audio and play preferences without changing the basic rules of the shift.
Use restart as a practice tool, not as the only response to mistakes. Learning to recover from a bad plate or lost customer will make later worlds easier.
How to start a run
From the homepage, choose Start Game. New players may see a first-shift tutorial. After that, choose an available world or the recommended shift from the world select screen. Once the shift loads, customer orders begin appearing in the lane. The timer, star pace, ingredient controls, prep deck, and service buttons are all part of the active run.
If you are unsure what to do first, serve the shortest visible order. This gives you a quick success and shows how the controls connect to the scoring loop.
How to interact with diner stations
The customer lane is where you read tickets. The ingredient row is where you build the plate. The prep deck is the station that shows the current build. The service control is the final step; it completes the order only when the plate matches a customer. The manager or upgrade area appears outside the active run and is used for long-term progress.
Do not look for hidden stations. Astro Diner keeps the important actions visible. If a button is disabled, the game is usually telling you the plate is not ready or the action is not currently available.
Troubleshooting controls
- If Serve Order is disabled, check that the plate exactly matches a visible customer ticket.
- If the wrong item was added, use undo for the last ingredient or clear for the full plate.
- If touch controls feel cramped, try landscape orientation or a larger screen.
- If audio controls do not behave as expected, open settings after starting the game and confirm the sliders and music toggle.
- If local progress appears missing, check whether browser storage was cleared or whether you are using a different browser or device.
Accessibility notes
The site uses visible headings, button labels, and focus states so controls are easier to identify. Motion-sensitive players can use browser or operating-system reduced-motion settings where supported by the interface. The game is visual and timing-based, so players who need more time may prefer practicing in early worlds before moving to busier sectors.

FAQ
Can I play with only a mouse?
Yes. The main loop can be played by clicking visible buttons.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes, but the game is easier when the screen is large enough to show customers, the prep deck, and ingredients clearly.
Why can I not serve my plate?
The plate must exactly match a waiting customer order before Serve Order becomes available.
Where should new players start?
Start with the how-to-play guide, then use this controls page as a reference while practicing.
