Read a waiting ticket, add its ingredients in order, then press Serve Order. Use this reference for the current keyboard shortcuts, mouse and touch controls, and plate correction.
Keyboard controls
During an active shift, keys 1 through 4 add the first four displayed ingredients. Read the labels because ingredients change between worlds. Use the ingredient button for any additional slot.
Press z and c without Shift. Ingredient and plate shortcuts do not run while a text input is focused, during modal training, or while the shift is paused. There is no dedicated global serve or restart shortcut.

Mouse controls
Click each ingredient button once for each occurrence on the ticket, from left to right. Customer cards are for reading; you do not click a customer to select them. Serve Order becomes available only when the plate exactly matches a waiting ticket. Adding the last ingredient alone does not award points.
Recipes & help or the clipboard button opens the recipe reference and pauses service. Use Close, Done reading, Escape, or click outside to dismiss it. Holding R keeps it open until release. Select Resume service when you are ready to continue.
Touch controls
On touch screens, tap ingredients to add them to the plate. Tap Serve Order when it is available. Tap undo or clear if the plate needs correction. The game uses large touch targets for the main actions, but small screens still require attention because customer tickets, the prep deck, and ingredient controls share limited space.
A repeated ingredient needs a repeated tap. An extra tap that does not belong to any waiting ticket can clear the plate as a wrong build. Check the deck after each tap while learning.
Mobile play notes
On narrow screens, scroll the ingredient row sideways to reach its buttons. Keep the customer ticket and current plate in view. If browser controls reduce the available space, pause before changing orientation or adjusting the view.
Pause and restart behavior
Press Escape or use the navigation pause icon to pause the active shift. Press Escape again or choose Resume service to continue. The P key is not a pause shortcut.
Restart Level starts that shift again. Exit to Menu leaves the current run and returns to world selection. These actions do not finish the run for you. Use Settings for audio, difficulty, and interface scale; use the pause control when you want the clock stopped.
How to start a run
From the homepage, choose Play Astro Diner. New players may see a first-shift tutorial. After that, choose an available world or the recommended shift from the world select screen. Once the shift loads, customer orders begin appearing in the lane. The timer, star pace, ingredient controls, prep deck, and service buttons are all part of the active run.
If you are unsure what to do first, serve the shortest visible order. This gives you a quick success and shows how the controls connect to the scoring loop.
How to interact with diner stations
The customer lane is where you read tickets. The ingredient row is where you build the plate. The prep deck is the station that shows the current build. The service control is the final step; it completes the order only when the plate matches a customer. The manager or upgrade area appears outside the active run and is used for long-term progress.
Do not look for hidden stations. Astro Diner keeps the important actions visible. If a button is disabled, the game is usually telling you the plate is not ready or the action is not currently available.
Troubleshooting controls
- If Serve Order is disabled, check that the plate exactly matches a visible customer ticket.
- If the plate still contains items, Undo removes the last one and Clear removes all of them.
- A wrong sequence resets combo and reduces hype. Neon Market keeps the plate so Undo can remove the wrong ingredient. Other worlds may clear it automatically.
- Enter and Space activate the focused button. They do not always serve: check focus before pressing them.
- If touch controls feel cramped, try landscape orientation or a larger screen.
- If audio controls do not behave as expected, open settings after starting the game and confirm the sliders and music toggle.
- If local progress appears missing, check whether browser storage was cleared or whether you are using a different browser or device.
Accessibility notes
The site uses visible headings, button labels, and focus states so controls are easier to identify. Motion-sensitive players can use browser or operating-system reduced-motion settings where supported by the interface. The game is visual and timing-based, so players who need more time may prefer practicing in early worlds before moving to busier sectors.

FAQ
Can I play with only a mouse?
Yes. The main loop can be played by clicking visible buttons.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes, but the game is easier when the screen is large enough to show customers, the prep deck, and ingredients clearly.
Why can I not serve my plate?
The plate must exactly match a waiting customer order before Serve Order becomes available.
Where should new players start?
Start with the how-to-play guide, then use this controls page as a reference while practicing.
